ABC of Georgia is dedicated to being here for our members, and committed to our mission of connecting construction disciplines to benefit the industry, economy and employment in Georgia. For ABC of Georgia, this means staying connected to members and continuing to adjust to meet unpredictable member needs over the next few months. This is the million-dollar question right now: What’s next, and how can we plan for it? The answer may be less in finding a solution and instead ensuring that our organizations are nimble and ready for change. Once the stay-at-home order was lifted, ABC of Georgia knew it was time to revive valuable learning opportunities. A generous match from one of our member’s own personal foundation helped us to raise nearly $75,000 and create more than 8,300 gowns for the Grady health care workers. Funds were needed to purchase Tyvek, and association members came together to support this cause. In late April, ABC of Georgia became aware of a shortage of hospital gowns at Atlanta’s own Grady Hospital and an initiative to use Tyvek to create more gowns. We also launched a new online learning platform that we look forward to continuing to grow and add more content for members to learn how and when it is convenient for them.

We worked with instructors to offer a variety of options for students, including in-person socially distanced classes, livestream options and session recordings for students to watch on-demand. With the onset of COVID-19, we paused and gave students and instructors a chance to adjust to the changing demands of their home and work lives. Providing educational opportunities for ABC of Georgia members is a critical part of our mission. Providing a venue for ABC of Georgia members to connect with one another, hear the latest updates and ask questions of thought leaders was critical. These Town Halls provided an invaluable opportunity for members to stay on top of the issues affecting both our industry and their organizations. We began weekly Town Hall virtual meetings, covering topics ranging from safety protocols on jobsites to HR issues dealing with the Coronavirus. When COVID-19 began impacting us this past spring, we all had questions. Kemp and securing signatures from 30 real estate, construction and other industry-related organizations in an effort to define construction as an essential business. We all can agree that no one would have expected 2020 to look like it currently does.
